Popin’ Pete’s Pop Shop: Monday 25 March – Sunday 31 March 2013
Creative poppping shop housed at Box Park mall, Shoreditch
Featuring the world renowned Popin’ Pete (Electric Boogloos, USA), Popin’ Pete’s Pop Shop was a week of dance happenings, from popping workshops and performances, to graffiti, DJ’ing, merchandise and social dance party sessions all in a shop!
Conceived and produced by Scanner’s Inc the Pop Shop gave dancers and the general public had a unique chance to get up close and personal, learn some skills, perfect some skills but above all have fun and get down. Music was played live by one of London’s finest, DJ Biznizz and live artwork from Mr Dane.
Film maker Ben Dowden of BD Film, a long time collaborator of both Kate Scanlan and Popin’ Pete, came down to the shop and got busy himself.
The daily schedule featured Basics and advanced workshops, talks and open practice session. Special events included a ‘late night shopping meets late night popping’ event with performance by Boy Blue Entertainment and an exhibition battle by Fiya House Crew; a special Kids Class; and Get Down a social dance party for the whole family. With prices starting at £3 it was affordable and fun.
Popin’ Pete’s Pop Shop is aimed at bringing the dance popping back to the community providing people with something fresh and fun to connect with. A travel scholarship programme enabled dancers and young people to travel from as far afield as Yorkshire, Gloucestershire, Bristol, Cardiff and the Bournemouth. Inspire to Aspire sessions took Popin’ Pete into a local community college and bought young people from local estates to engage with the dance for the first time.
Popin’ Pete’s Pop Shop is available for touring in the UK or any other city in the world. Get in touch to book or find out more by emailing email@example.com
